Want to bundle up the trendy way this winter? You're in luck. Many of this winter's top styles focus on staying warm while still being stylish.
Sweaters -- This year, the "sweater coat" is very in. This is a belted, knee-length sweater that can double as a coat. Stick with wool cable-knit for the most warmth. There are a lot of big buttons and pockets adorning these, which really make them feel and look like coats.

Coats/Jackets -- In alignment with the "sweater coat," you'll notice a lot of knee-length, belted coats as well. Dark olive, plum, navy, chocolate, charcoal grey, silver grey, taupe, champagne or camel colors always work well. Military style jackets are also hot. They can be waist- or knee-length and should be bought in black, military green or khaki. This season's jackets emphasize volume, with big sleeves (wide enough so that sweaters will fit comfortably underneath) and wide collars (fur trimmed is an option) good for pulling up around the ears and protecting against wind.
Layering -- Piling on the layers can be tricky, so be careful not to make yourself look like you gained extra weight. Follow these tips to get the look right:
- Use leggings and slouchy boots.
- Wear a belted cardigan sweater.
- Throw on some textured tights (vertically ribbed) under short shorts or mini-skirts.
- Wear your capris or mid-length skirts with cute wool socks and heels.
- Warm up your sleeveless dresses by wearing a long-sleeved shirt or lightweight sweater underneath.
Wide-Legged Pants -- Really wide-legged pants are in this winter and great if you want to wear tights or leggings underneath.
Plaid -- Although typically associated with traditional Scottish dress, red plaid is back in and looks great in the form of jersey or empire dresses and pantsuits. Black plaid is also a great option this winter.
