Overcome Your Exercise Obstacles

I receive a lot of emails from eDiets.com members who have physical injuries. The injuries run the gamut from bad backs to knee problems. In many cases, a physician's recommendation is first required before I can provide an exercise recommendation.

I recently asked one special eDiets member - who has overcome many injuries and physical complications - to tell her story.

The beauty of Lanie's narrative is not only her remarkable perseverance, but that she's within 15 pounds of her weight goal.

Lanie has a smart philosophical and practical approach to working around injuries. Her determination shows that you, too, can achieve your goals under the most trying of circumstances.

Lanie's Story - Exercising With Injuries

I've been an eDiets member for about three years. Up until I hit my 30s, I exercised somewhat regularly, walked, used a stationary bike, learned to use weight machines and dumbbells with a trainer, and didn't really need to watch my weight all that carefully. I was fairly stable at 130 to 135 pounds. Then ... blammo.

For several years now, I've had a number of physical problems, one after another. You name the joint; I've had a problem with it. Feet, ankles, knees, lower back, shoulder/neck, elbow, wrists. Top it off with pneumonia, asthma, vague autoimmune problems and thoracic surgery.

I gained weight, lost weight, started exercise programs and had to stop just when I was getting somewhere because another joint acted up. Through this experience, I've learned three things in terms of exercise.
