I've eaten my broccoli. I've even topped it with tofu. But as I weigh in on what I've eaten (and weigh myself in the process), methinks it's time to venture into new taste realms!
Want to join me on the uncharted waters of healthful, different foods to try? Let's cast off for:
Plain nonfat yogurt. "So what's the treat?" you're thinking. Research increasingly has shown the benefits of probiotics, which help with various health conditions. And plain yogurt containing live Lactobacillus acidophilus cultures offers those benefits. For example, if you suffer from digestive problems, such as bloating and/or constipation, the first step is to ask your doctor for advice. If he or she agrees, then consuming plain yogurt with acidophilus (check the label) can help. Why I plan to eat more plain nonfat yogurt with acidophilus in 2008: When I get stressed, my stomach tends to grumble and rumble. I recently discovered that mixing plain yogurt with a packet of Splenda and half a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, plus a dash of ginger, soothes my troubled tummy AND satisfies my cravings for something sweet. And the calcium in the yogurt benefits my bones. What's not to like?!
Mini pre-packaged popcorn cakes. I sometimes get a yearning for something munchy and crunchy. And truthfully, my first thought often is for those greasy, fattening, high-calorie, salty potato chips. My new discovery that I plan to enjoy in 2008: 90-calories-a-package Quaker Mini Delights. Why pre-packaged snacks rock: You avoid the temptation to have "just a few extra." There's no chance for careless measurement (I know I've done my share of measuring out a cupful, but that cup is overflowing!). Quaker's done the work for you. Each bag contains no trans fat and lots of flavor. My favorites: Buttered Popcorn, Chocolatey Drizzle and Cinnamon Streusel. One of my colleagues is determined to lose weight in 2008, but she was mourning the loss of her favorite chocolate candies. I gave her a package of the Quaker Mini Delight chocolate-flavored variety. "Oh my gosh, I LOVE those!" she exclaimed.
