Here is an enjoyable family activity that will build true holiday memories. During the holiday season, there are certain smells and activities that conjure up past memories of when you were younger. For example, the smell of cinnamon is almost in every store during the holiday season.
Another one is the smell of ginger. As a holiday tradition, we make gingerbread man cookies that fill the house with a wonderful aroma that seems to linger for hours.

Make sure to get them involved in the process. But remember that while one is helping, the others will become bored. Always have extra toys and washable books on hand that they can rotate while taking turns. Be sure to have their own table and chairs set up so they can play close by and maybe even do a step or two of the recipe there. Then when it's their turn to come up to the kitchen table or counter, they can easily switch places.
Besides, having them do part of the work at their own table makes them feel that much more helpful.
