Depending on where you live, a change of season typically goes hand-in-hand with a change in wardrobe. But the arrival of cooler temperatures means it's also time to change your skincare regimen. As the mercury begins to fall, follow these tips to help your skin make a flawless transition.

Saving Face
When it comes to your face, one size does not fit all. You'll need to opt for seasonal products that address the specific needs of your skin type, whether your face tends to be oily, normal, dry or a little of each.

For oily and/or acne-prone skin, it's especially important to winterize your skin. Experts say that oily skin won't tolerate the same facial products you use to remove the extra oil your skin makes in the summer. And using summer cleansers into cooler months can cause your skin to become rough and irritated.

If you're using acne products, dermatologists suggest avoiding ingredients with benzoyl peroxide, sulfur and salicylic acid. Dry, cold weather will typically increase the drying effect of these products. Also watch out for most prescription retinoids - they could lead to noticeable flaking. If you're using an acne cleanser with a drying base that strips your skin, switch to the lotion or cream-based formulation when the weather changes.

For dry or mature skin, use a light, lotion-based cleanser that does not contain foaming or lathering agents. The foam and/or lather created from chemical detergents can dry out the skin even more. You can also take it a step further and swap out lotion-based cleansers with cream-based ones.
