Christina Russell is not only an eDiets super success story, but she’s also the star of an eDiets TV commercial, an Internet star who shares her inspirational weight loss journey with others in the blog
, and one half of the 2 Cookin' Mamas writing team that has given birth to The Pregnancy Cookbook – Superfood Recipes for Expecting Moms.
This remarkable renaissance woman, who is 36 years young and stands 6-foot-1, hooked up with eDiets, then proceeded to drop a remarkable 50 pounds.
Christina tells eDiets that she began writing her blog to inspire "all those people out there that have tried other diets and failed – and to keep me focused and motivated to meet my goal weight!"
Her blog page notes: "I lost 50 pounds by eating healthy and incorporating DDP Yoga into my lifestyle. I am now a certified nutritionist and hope to pay it forward by sharing my daily struggles and victories as I journey towards the best version of me."
eDiets caught up with Christina recently and got her to sit still long enough to answer five insightful questions.
eDiets: Tell us about your eDiets experience -- what led you to eDiets, how much weight did you lose, and how did the experience help inspire you to become a nutritionist and yoga instructor?
Christina: I chose the eDiets program because I needed something that would make my life easier. I worked full-time and had an infant and husband to care for, so having meals available that were healthy
and super-fast to make was a no-brainer. I lost 45 pounds with eDiets and knew that if I could do it, others could do it, too. I went back to school, became certified in nutrition and wellness and now I'm currently working towards my DDP Yoga certification. My goal is to be able to help people take back control of their lives and be the best version of themselves.
eDiets: What type of habits or behaviors had put you in position for a new lifestyle – one that works, is sustainable and helps improve your weight and overall health?
Christina: My daily habits that help keep me healthy and fit include eating smaller portions, drinking plenty of water throughout the day, scheduling my workouts, and staying in touch with others like me
that want to live a healthy lifestyle.
eDiets: Congratulations on your cookbook. Whet our appetite with a short list of recipes included.
Thank you so much! The Pregnancy Cookbook
was designed for expecting moms, but includes heart-healthy recipes for anyone! Here are a few of my favorites:
Tomato Basil Flatbread
Edamame Pasta Salad
Crab-Stuffed Portobello Mushroom
Soy Glazed Salmon
Italian Spaghetti Squash
Banana Chocolate Ice Cream
eDiets: You've accomplished quite a lot since taking charge of your life and health – so, how does a busy woman stick to a healthy diet and exercise program?
Christina: My trick for keeping healthy is to be prepared and set goals. I plan all my meals out for the week and I always make sure to have healthy snacks on hand. I also make it a priority to schedule my workouts for the week so I don't have an excuse to miss them. Having great apps available on my phone also help me to keep track of my water intake, workouts, and calories – it’s great for when you're on the go! Setting goals, writing them down, and reading them daily also helps me stay focused on what's important to me.
eDiets: Dropping weight and shaping up can be daunting at times. What advice do you have for readers in need of a lifestyle makeover?
Christina: If you are looking to make a positive change, my best advice is to find a good support system. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals can help you stay on track to meet your goals and even challenge you to do more! A good support system will be there for you when you're doing great or when you've had a setback. Having the support to never give up will make you a success!
Christina came up with the idea of a creating a pregnancy cookbook during her second pregnancy. She searched for cookbooks that catered to her nutritional and physical needs, but couldn't find any that she liked so she decided to create her own. Although Christina lost the baby, she was determined to complete the cookbook so other expectant mothers would be able to enjoy delicious and healthy meals. She enlisted the help of the best chef she knew – her mother, Linda – and together they created 2 Cookin' Mamas
