“Real housewife” Gretchen Rossi is a real stunner when she pours herself into a teenie-weenie bikini, but the reality TV star insists its moderation rather than an insane diet that has helped her bounce back from an eating disorder to become a small screen sex symbol.
Gretchen, who starred on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Orange County, reveals that her secret to a trim and healthy body is to do everything in moderation.
“I’ve struggled in the past with having an eating disorder way back in the day in high school and going through yoyo dieting and trying every pill on the market, but none of it worked [because] I wasn’t feeding my body or taking care of myself,” Gretchen said.
“Once I decided to get healthy and let all of that go out the door, it made such a huge difference. The second that I stopped putting pressure on myself is when I really started to see the weight come off and really started to see my body transform.
“I eat just little bits of everything and graze all day long. And what it comes down to is you have to mentally know what it is you’re putting into your body.”
Gretchen’s approach to fitness is similar to that of her diet. She does not focus on a single exercise or program. However, she does stay active with a variety of activities that include tennis and dog walking. When she does hit the gym, she can be found at the elliptical machine or doing squats, sit-ups and routines that include working with weights.
According to Us Weekly online, Gretchen will have even more time for diet and exercise:
“The eighth season of The Real Housewives of Orange County ended just last month, but there's already some drama brewing over the yet-to-be-announced ninth season. Sources confirm… that Gretchen Rossi and Alexis Bellino – who joined the Bravo series in season four and season five, respectively – have not been asked to return.
“’Alexis and Gretchen were fired," one source tells Us. "They just had run their course. Gretchen has been on the show a long time, and it was the same old story.’”
Gretchen takes the good with the bad and retains her confidence and positive outlook
"I'm smart, I'm sexy and I'm confident. Of course people are going to talk about me," she said.
On her blog page, Gretchen once listed her top 4 tips and tricks for a healthier look.
1. Moderate Exercise that includes weaving a little bit into your everyday lifestyle.
2. Healthy Eating without denying yourself of anything.
3. A Great Supplement (eDiets offers several – just click here to choose the one that's right for you).
4. A Great Tan!
Until the glow from her appearance on Housewives fades, it’s a safe bet that Gretchen will continue to cash in on her body and fame. She used her exposure to launch the bikini line Gretchen Christine for Luxe by Lisa Vogel. Other projects and endorsements have included a makeup line and a handbag line.
But no matter what lies ahead, Gretchen insists she will always stay grounded. Her advice to other women seeking a better self-image:
“First things first, take the pressure off yourself! Know that no matter what if you are happy on the inside it will reflect on the outside, no matter how big, small or fit you are. You have to be comfortable in your own skin; no one can decide what is best for your body but you.
“Don't try to be another person's size, that will never happen. God has made each one of us different, teach yourself to be content with who you are, pray for that strength as you take on any new workout or when trying to change your eating habits.”
Gretchen once said she attempts to work in at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. She suggests you set the bar low if you are just starting out.
“Let’s start today with 15 sit-ups and 15 pushups and that’s it,” she said. “And then the next day do something more or add something else to it.
“Take it in baby steps. Just like anything, you’re not going to just go climb Mt. Everest. You have to build your endurance and train to be at that level.”
